Why Do I Need a Hysterectomy?

This is a topic that a lot of patients have questions on.  When women are told they need a hysterectomy, questions start swirling in their heads.  One of the most common question is WHY?

Hysterectomies are done for multiple different reasons.  Most common ones are:

* Fibroids that are causing pelvic pain, painful sex, and abnormal uterine bleeding.

* Abnormal bleeding that failed more conservative approach, such as hormonal management or minor surgical procedure like an endometrial ablation.

* Uterine prolapse that are symptomatic.

* Chronic pelvic pain where other causes have been ruled out.

* Adenomyosis and endometriosis.

* Gynecologic cancers.

With the advances in technology and medications, all the above issues can be managed well enough where hysterectomy can be delayed.  However, some patients fail all conservative approaches and a hysterectomy is the only solution.

Talk to your doctor if you are suffering with these problems.

Until then.....
